Tips for choosing Appropriate Children's literature in your classroom:
1. Choose diverse literature. Have different subjects, authors, genres, book lenghts, and reading levels available to your students at all times.
2. Vocabulary should be relatively familiar while including some new and challenging words.
3. Consider your student's different personalities and personal preferences.
4. Non-fiction books encourage children to read about topics that interest them and to satisfy their curiosity about complex subjects.
5. Recognize that a good book is not necessarily the most lavish or most expensive book on the shelf. It is a book that is written and designed well. Take more than a few minutes to look at books, reading short passages as you go, before selecting it for the classroom.
