A Very Improbable Story: A Math Adventure by Edward Einhorn
A Very Improbable Story is a story of a boy named Ethan who wakes up with a cat named Odds on his head. He thinks this is normal because his normal cat does this, but Odds refuses to get off of his head no matter what. However, Odds declares that he will get off of Ethan’s head if he wins a game of probability. Many games were played, until he finally matched two dog shapes together by luck. Ethan then uses his new knowledge of probability to calculate his odds of scoring a goal in his soccer game that was to take place later that day. Reading Level: 3.2 Interest Level: K-3 |

Lemonade for Sale by Stuart J. Murphy
Lemonade for Sale is about a group of children trying to rebuild their clubhouse. They decide that they are going to start a lemonade stand to raise the money to rebuild. Each child had an individual job at the stand, and one of the girls named Sheri kept track of how many cups were sold. She tallied the total every day, and put the results on a bar graph to show the others their sales for the day. At the end of the week, the children looked at the graph and realized they had made enough money to rebuild their clubhouse. Reading Level: 2.8 Interest Level: 2-5 |
